St. Thomas More Youth Choir

The St. Thomas More Youth Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday afternoons, immediately after school. In addition to singing at Cathedral events, the Youth Choir has sung at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Georgetown University, Nationals Park and Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

 

Eligibility

Any student in grades 3-8 currently enrolled at St. Thomas More Cathedral School or registered as a member of the parish. Membership is limited.

Rehearsals

The Youth Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30pm.  All choir members must arrange for transportation immediately following rehearsal or go to Extended Day. Choir members will wait in the classroom to be picked up. Any choir members still present at 4:30pm must check into Extended Day and parents will be billed accordingly.

Attendance

Attendance is monitored at all rehearsals and performances. Failure to participate consistently shows a lack of commitment. If a choir member is ill or knows in advance of a conflict that will prevent him or her from participating in a rehearsal or performance, please email [email protected].

Liturgies and Performances

The Youth Choir generally sings twice a month for the Cathedral's Sunday's 9:30am Mass.  In addition, we sing at other sacramental liturgies, community events and other parish celebrations. Additional details will be given as each performance draws near.

Reminders & Information

Information about upcoming rehearsals, liturgies, and other Youth Choir events will be sent via reminder fliers and e-mail. Please be sure to keep all contact the information current to facilitate communication. A calendar of events is also posted on this page.

Dues and Fundraising

The Youth Choir relies on the following sources of income:

  • $20 yearly dues
  • Donations
  • Pizza lunch fundraising
 

All funds are used to purchase new music, binders and robes. Checks should be made payable to Cathedral of St. Thomas More.

Music

It is the responsibility of each member to care for his or her music. Choral music is very expensive!

Food

Snack is provided for all choir rehearsals. A sign-up sheet will be provided to parents at the beginning of the year to provide snack for the choir.

Do not eat, drink or chew gum during rehearsals or performances.

Robes

Each member is assigned a robe and hanger for the year. Choir members will be responsible for any damage or staining to robes. Choir members will be expected to have their robes dry-cleaned and returned at both the beginning and the end of the school year. A note of caution: please be gentle with the zippers – they are expensive to replace!

Contract

Membership in the Youth Choir is a privilege and a responsibility. Choir members and parents are requested to read and sign the contract listed below, promising to abide by the guidelines listed.
