Welcoming Military Families to St. Thomas More Cathedral School

Proudly Recognized as a Purple Star School

St. Thomas More Cathedral School (STM) has been honored as a Purple Star School for the second time by the Virginia Department of Education on October 1, 2025. The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and families by providing resources, understanding transitions, and creating a welcoming environment for those who serve our nation.

Planning Your Arrival at STM

St. Thomas More Cathedral School proudly welcomes military families from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, The Pentagon, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington Navy Yard, United States Coast Guard Headquarters, and military facilities throughout the Washington, D.C., region.

STM understands that military families may be awaiting Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders before beginning the enrollment process. However, families are encouraged to apply as early as possible if there is a possibility of relocating to the Arlington area. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and waitlists are common across grade levels due to the high demand for placement.

Because military assignments and family circumstances can change frequently, early planning is encouraged. Families can visit our Admissions Page for application instructions and information about completing K–8 placement screenings at their current duty station.

Planning Your Departure from STM

STM recognizes that military families may experience unexpected transitions. Upon receiving transfer orders out of the area, military families may request in writing a refund of the annual re-registration fee and tuition paid.

Families should notify the school once orders are received and provide the anticipated departure date. To assist with a smooth transition, families must submit the appropriate record release form from their child’s new school so STM can forward student records.
