Be a Part of the STM Band!

Hello STM Families!

My name is Barry Ward, and I am the Band Director at St. Thomas More Cathedral School. I am excited to invite your student to become part of the STM Band!

Band at St. Thomas More begins in 4th grade and continues through 8th grade. Our Beginner Band is made up primarily of first-year musicians, while our award-winning Advanced Band includes more experienced students in grades 5–8.

If your student is interested in learning an instrument, be sure to explore the “Be a Part of the Band”. This resource explains everything you need to know about getting started and includes helpful information for both students and parents.

Playing an instrument can add so much to a student's school experience. Band Day is Thursday, and students receive their lessons at school, making music an exciting and convenient part of their school day. Students are placed in small groups based on their age, grade, and instrument as they develop their skills throughout the year.

As students progress, they become part of a full band that performs at school events and concerts. The STM Band Program also has a long and rich tradition of helping students develop not only musical skills, but also a lasting appreciation and love of music. For many students, the experience continues into high school and even college.

Each year, the band may also have the opportunity to participate in a music festival, competition, or theme-park performance trip, giving students the chance to perform and experience music beyond the classroom.
