Meet Mr. Fred Garcia

A Lifetime of STM...

I have been a lifelong Virginia resident and am proud to be an alumnus of St. Thomas More Cathedral School, back when the IHM Sisters lived and taught here. After graduating from Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School, I attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where I studied Electrical Engineering before being drafted into the United States Army.

As a proud Army veteran, I later graduated from Columbia Tech and even returned there as a substitute instructor teaching Electronics. For more than 18 years, I owned and operated Garcia TV Service, our family business in Arlington. Following the events of September 11, 2001, I remained in Arlington to help renovate our 60-year-old family home and care for my mother, who is now 100 years old.

I joined the STM community again around 2001 this time as a substitute teacher and have been blessed to serve here ever since, now as a recess and lunch monitor. While I fondly remember the sisters who shaped my own education, I am equally grateful to be part of today's outstanding team of dedicated faculty and staff who continue to provide an exceptional Catholic education for our students.

It is a true privilege to serve the school and parish that helped shape my life and to help pass on the same faith, values, and sense of community that I received as a student here.
