Guidance Office

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept, feelings of competence and confidence as learners, decision making skills, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.

St. Thomas More Cathedral School (STM) partners with Social Grace, LLC to help students achieve academic success and develop social-emotional skills. These include building social or executive function skills and improving academic performance. Social Grace specializes in working with tweens, teens, young adults, adults and families. Its areas of expertise are in ADD/ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, 2e, social/emotional delays, trauma, major life adjustments and transition services.

The role of our guidance office is as follows:

  • to consult with teachers about building classroom connections, effective classroom management and the role of noncognitive factors in student success
  • to consult with the school principal to identify and resolve student issues, needs and problems
  • to advocate for students at individual student-focused meetings
  • to make referrals for long-term support
