Pre-Kindergarten

A Joyful Beginning Rooted in Faith

The Pre-Kindergarten program at St. Thomas More Cathedral School provides a nurturing Catholic environment where children develop spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Through hands-on exploration, meaningful play, and caring relationships, our youngest learners build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

 

Inspired by our patron, St. Thomas More, we believe that education is about helping each child discover and develop the gifts God has placed within them.

 

Our classrooms are designed to encourage exploration, creativity, collaboration, and independence. Many children experience school for the first time in Pre-K, where they learn classroom routines, develop friendships, strengthen communication skills, and begin building the academic foundation needed for Kindergarten success.

 

As part of our Cathedral community, students also enjoy regular visits from our Parochial Vicar, helping them grow in their Catholic faith and recognize that they are loved as children of God.

 

Learning Through Play

Our curriculum is intentionally designed around play-based, hands-on learning. Students explore engaging classroom centers while teachers provide individualized instruction in small groups. A full-time classroom aide supports learning through themed projects, crafts, and enrichment activities that reinforce weekly lessons.

 

Program Highlights

  • Five-day Pre-Kindergarten program for children who are 4 years old by September 30
  • Three dismissal options: 12:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m., or 6:00 p.m. (Extended Day)
  • Full-time certified teacher and classroom aide
  • Small-group, center-based instruction
  • Two to three outdoor recess periods each day
  • Strong emphasis on social-emotional growth, independence, and Kindergarten readiness
  • Regular faith formation experiences as part of our Cathedral community
 

By the end of Pre-Kindergarten, students leave with strong pre-reading and early math skills, greater independence, meaningful friendships, confidence in the classroom, and a solid foundation for a successful transition to Kindergarten.
