Dear STM Parents,
"Password123" isn't a password. It's a welcome mat for hackers! And if yours is "ILoveMom123," even Mom might suggest something stronger!
Passwords protect our emails, photos, and personal information. Weak passwords leave the door open, and cybercriminals don't knock!
The Toothbrush Rule
Treat passwords like toothbrushes:
- Don't share. Never with friends or classmates. The only exception is a parent or guardian, following school account rules.
- Don't reuse. Every account needs a unique password.
- Replace when compromised. Change exposed passwords immediately.
Three Smart Habits
- Go long! Use at least 15 characters. Try four random words. A password manager helps!
- Add a second lock. Enable two-factor authentication. Never share verification codes.
- Think before clicking. Suspicious message? Don't panic or click. Visit the official website directly.
The Catholic Connection: Magnifica Humanitas
In his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (2026), Pope Leo XIV calls us to protect human dignity in a digital age. Protecting our privacy is part of that. The virtue of prudence reminds us that safeguarding our children’s digital lives is an act of responsibility, respect, and love. Technology should help us become more truthful, responsible, and fully human, not simply faster at saying whatever comes to mind.
Try This at Home
Make your child the family's Password Detective! Together, examine one account. Is its password long, unique, and secure? Strengthen it if needed!
Small habits. Big protection. Lock the digital door!
