Safe Play!

We are continuing to remind our students to play safely at recess. Safe play includes refraining from bringing hard sports balls to school. In addition, please remind your child(ren) to refrain from overly competitive/aggressive games on the blacktop. Unfortunately, the blacktop is not as forgiving as turf or grass.

Allergy Season!

Have you noted your child(ren)’s seasonal allergies in Magnus? If we are not informed that your child is affected by this lovely season in NOVA, our clinical assessment of runny noses, coughs and itchy pink eyes will differ from how we assess students who have their allergies noted in Magnus. Please take a minute to ensure that your child’s Magnus account accurately reflects their medical history.

We understand that our students who suffer from seasonal allergies may need some support from the clinic while at school, including medication administration. Please see below as reminder regarding medication policy:

  • All medications that need to be administered during the school day must be dropped off to the clinic nurse by an adult.  Students should not be carrying medication into school even with the intent of dropping to the clinic.  Medications need to be in original packaging and clearly labeled with the students name.

  • Medication Authorization Forms - If your child needs to take an over the counter medication occasionally such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen please upload the medication authorization form linked below to Magnus. This can be done by going into Magnus, clicking on Conditional Questions and checking yes to “Does your child take medications during the school day?” This will prompt Magnus to add a Medication Authorization Form section at the bottom of their health tracker. Once you open this section, you will be prompted to upload the medication authorization form (link provided below) when completed. For occasional over the counter medications, this form can be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian and does not require that the form be signed by a physician. Please note that any medication (including over the counter medication) that needs to be given for more than four consecutive days, needs to have this form filled out and signed by a physician.

  • This completed form in Magnus will allow the clinic nurses to administer over the counter medications for instances such as mouth pain from dental/orthodontist appointments, cough drops for a lingering cough etc. This is not to treat ailments that should have a student at home, such as a fever.
