A special thanks to parents and families who have continued to take the appropriate measures to help keep everyone at STM healthy by following the return-to-school policy when their children are ill and not feeling well.
I’m sure the students are excited about all the fun and celebrations coming our way in the next few months! As we approach the holiday season, please remember that sweets can be tough on teeth. You can help your child remember to keep cavity-causing bacteria in check by adding these strategies to their holiday routine:
1. Balancing out sweets with other foods. Eating sugary and carb-rich foods as part of a balanced meal can lessen their impact on your teeth.
2. Choose sweets that don’t stick around; instead of sticky foods that get on and in between your teeth, go for items that dissolve quickly, limiting their contact with your enamel. For example, swap out caramels and candy canes with plain dark chocolate.
3, Brush afterward. Try to keep a toothbrush to remove food and plaque after eating. When kids can’t brush, rinsing their mouths with water to wash away food particles and bacteria is an option that can help keep mouths clean.
Fun Fact
Did you know that if you’re consuming foods or beverages high in acid, like oranges or orange juice, it is good to wait 30 minutes to brush your teeth? Acid can soften the enamel, so brushing too soon can damage your teeth.
