One School One Book

Dear Students and Families of St. Thomas More,

Welcome to the One School, One Book program, generously sponsored by the PTO. One School, One Book aims at creating a shared reading experience for families and students. This year, we are reading Grace Lin’s Where the Mountain Meets the Moon and hope that you've enjoyed it so far.

This modern folktale tells about a courageous young girl, Minli, who sets out to change her family’s ill fortunes. Minli journeys to from her small village seeking the Old Man of the Moon to help her in a story loosely based on
the set-up of The Wizard of Oz. She shows courage, honesty and kindness along the way to creatures she
meets and to her family.

The values of kindness, courage and honesty are so needed today and ones we teach and model in our STM community as we honor the unique backgrounds, personalities and individuality of our students. By brave openness and kindness to one another, STM will recognize that we are called by Christ the teacher, in the faces and experiences of our classmates and staff.

Books went home with the youngest of each family on Back-to-School Night this past Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Each morning during the announcements, I've asked a few questions about the chapters and have invited students to submit their answers. Correct answers will enter the class in a drawing to win a gift card for their homeroom.

Tomorrow morning, Sept. 21, I will ask questions from Chapters 11-12 and will proceed with two chapters each school morning.

I hope you enjoy reading this book and, through this shared experience, we will grow together as a community. Discussions and questions are welcome!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Pacheco
