Asynchronous Learning

Check your folders tonight! Asynchronous Learning materials for next Monday and Tuesday came home today!

Here is how it works:

  • There is no in-person school on Monday, December 19, 2022 OR Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
  • There are carefully crafted extension activities for each subject for your child to complete, which will magically appear in one of three ways:
    • The folder/packet coming home today
    • Seesaw (PK-2)
    • Google Classroom (3-8)
  • These assignments are REQUIRED. They will be due on Monday, January 9th and count as part of your child’s Trimester 2 grade. If your child does not turn them in, they will get a 0 and their grade will be affected accordingly.

Top 5 Tips for Easier Asynchronous

  1. JUST DO IT! Bite the bullet and get it done on Monday and Tuesday. Then it is not hanging over your head and they will not quite be out of “school” mode and into “vacation” mode yet. Start first thing in the morning–whatever time that is for your family. For mine, that is at 8:30am or so after we’ve eaten breakfast.
  2. It may be easier for your family to do one activity each morning instead of the whole thing over 2 days!
  3. Give brain breaks. After each activity, do something physical, whether that be a quick workout (10 jumping jacks and 10 pushups), a walk outside, or 10 minutes to ride a bike. The fresh air and activity will engage their brain again and it is amazing what little and big kids alike can do after they MOVE!
  4. Make a plan and read the directions together so that they can work (semi) independently, giving starting and check in times:
    1. “At 8:30, let’s work on Reading. In reading you are supposed to: _____. I have a meeting until 9:15 and will come check on you then.”
    2. At 9:15 (or around that meeting time at work), check their progress and answer any questions they may have, then allow them to finish or start their next task. The more details you give up front, the more independently they are able to work!
  5. Give them a carrot to chase: finish Reading and Math, then we can _______. (Make cookies, play outside, play a board game, use the Switch/XBox/etc., watch a show, earn screen time,–whatever works for your child(ren).)
I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic start to 2023! See you in January!
