Teacher Spotlight - Academic Support

Emily Stocker - Curriculum Coordinator

Hello! My name is Emily Stocker and I feel both privileged and humbled to support teachers and students in curriculum development. I have been a part of the St. Thomas More community for 13 years, in which I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, and Technology from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Previously, I taught Kindergarten for two years at St. Ann Catholic School in Charlotte, NC.

My commitment to STM is two-fold: as staff and as a parent. My husband and I have three daughters, two of which attend STM currently in Fourth and Second Grades. The third will join in a few more years when she is old enough. I came to STM because of it's mission to reach all learners and help them fulfill their true spiritual, academic, social, and emotional potential. I feel blessed to be a part of the team that works towards this goal.

My particular duties as Curriculum Coordinator include monitoring the curriculum lessons from Pre-Kindergarten all the way through Eighth Grade to ensure that we are, as a school, fulfilling our mission. In addition to researching the new and best practices, I will also have the opportunity to coach our new to STM teachers in the traditions and practices that have made us such a successful place for children! While what I do from day to day may vary, I can guarantee that I will always be looking for ways to encourage the teachers (and by proxy, the students), to ensure quality materials are purchased and used, to research new (and old) methodologies and how they may help our students, and to provide support to anyone who needs me while at school.

Sarah Rimicci - Resource Specialist

As a Resource Specialist, I enjoy working with small groups of students to support their growth in the classroom. I have the opportunity to work with students in grades K-5 to build both literacy skills and math concepts. I am also available to provide organizational support to Middle School students.

I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Elementary Education and then from University of Virginia with a Masters in Reading Education. Most recently, I finished an Orton Gillingham certification program. I am passionate about teaching children to read and to love books.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family: my husband and 4 children, two of which are still students at STM, one who attends Bishop O'Connell and one starting at UVA. I love to read, to cook, and to walk on the beach or hike through the woods. I look forward to a wonderful year full of exciting adventures!

Wanda Anderson - Reading Specialist
I have been teaching at STM for 19 years as the Catapult Learning Title I Reading Specialist.  I am looking forward to joining Mrs. Rimicci in August as part of the STM Resource team.  I can't wait to be fully part of this awesome STM community and am confident year 20 will be the best one yet!

I have 33 years of teaching experience, am a certified Reading Specialist as well as a certified Dyslexia Practitioner through Wilson Reading Systems.  I love empowering students as readers and writers, partnering with parents, and supporting classroom teachers. In addition to teaching students at STM, I am also on the faculty of Moreland University in their teacher certification program, and provide a wide array of support as an educational consultant.

My husband and I live in Washington, DC and enjoy cooking together and exploring state and local parks. In my free time, I love to read, bake, quilt, hike and photograph nature.
