Parent-Teacher Conferences

As a teacher, this was always one of my favorite times of the year--connecting with the parents of the students in my classroom. Whether this is your first STM Parent Teacher Conference or you’ve been through many during your tenure here, I hope you find them to be informative and helpful.

I need to take a moment and brag on STM teachers--they know your kids well! However, 15 minutes is a relatively short time to be able to meet. Generally speaking, this is how it will go:

The teacher has prepared data and information to share with you regarding the spiritual, social, emotional, and academic progress they see your child currently making. They will also share goals for your child as we move forward. Based on this information, you may have some great questions. We definitely want to hear them! I will be in and out of conferences throughout the building getting to know you better and showing support for your child, yourself, and your child’s teacher. We believe that the village participation, interest, and building of relationships is what makes us successful here and I am so pleased to be a part of STM’s community.

Your time is valuable and STM wants to ensure that everyone has their full conference time. If you find that a question or discussion is going to take longer than your allotted time, the teachers have been asked to provide you the opportunity to come back for another session. Thank you for helping us to keep to this, as it is so tempting to just take “ a few extra minutes.” In my experience, those 1-2 minutes per conference add up to a total of about 15-20 minutes of parents waiting by the end of the day, which is respectful of no one.

As always, if there is a curriculum question that arises from your conference, I am happy to make myself available to you. Please feel free to contact me via email and we can either address it through that correspondence or set up a time to meet virtually or in person.
