Assistant Principal, Mrs. Thomas, successfully submitted and earned STM a $5,000 Porto Charities grant. The award will be utilized to purchase Bal-A-Vis-X equipment. These materials will supplement a new physical education curriculum with a documented application to all children and it also improves capacities in children with special needs. The program name stands for Balance, Auditory and Vision eXercises.
Bal-A-Vis-X is used to:
- increase attention span (stay on task)
- fine-tune focus skills (ignore distractions)
- improve eye fitness (for reading skills and class work)
- strengthen whole body coordination
- build confidence
- reduce impulsive behavior
- promote peer teaching, common social goals, and a productive classroom atmosphere
