Write a 350 -word three-paragraph about your eighth-grade year highlights. Choose a theme to build your essay around. For example, you could write about one class, lunch/recess, clubs, sports, etc. Use concrete language. Vary your sentence structure. Start your introduction with a noun, adverb, or adjective phrase. Use concrete verbs and words.

Every year the Knights of Columbus sponsor a scholarship essay contest. The scholarship award is $500 sent to the Catholic high school where the student will attend. This year's topic is "Why is Saint Joseph the patron saint of the universal church ?" Students will turn the essays in on Google classroom and I will forward them to the Knight committee. Essays should be in a three-paragraph format and 500-750 words. The award will be given at the graduation.
