BOOK IN A BAG PROGRAM

STM’S PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN LIBRARY PROGRAM

“The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” Jim Trelease

Dear Parents,

One of our goals at St. Thomas More School is to build a community of readers. We don’t just want to teach children to read, we want them to love to read. We hope to make lifelong readers and this process starts at home. Educators unanimously agree that reading aloud to your children is the single most important daily activity that you can do to help them develop as readers, and that is what our Book in a Bag Program is all about.

STM’s Book in a Bag program makes it easy for you. Everyday your child will bring home in a canvas tote bag with one library book inside for you to read together. Please return the ‘Book in a Bag’ each day. If you forget to return the book, that’s fine; no student will ever be chastised for forgetting their books. Yet, your child will not receive a book the next day. Once the book comes back, your child will receive a new book. It helps to form a habit of reading the book and replacing it in the bag by the backpack.

Your teachers and I are very excited about this program and we hope you will be, too. If you have any questions about this program or any library program, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Sincerely,
Mrs. Pacheco, Librarian
