Join the Choir
The St. Thomas More Youth Choir is open to any student in the Third through Eighth grades currently enrolled at St. Thomas More Cathedral School or registered as a member of the parish.
Rehearsals take place once a week (on Thursday afternoons) immediately after school. The Youth Choir generally sings twice a month at parish and/or diocesan liturgies, including the Sunday 9:30 Mass at the Cathedral, diocesan events, sacramental liturgies, community events, and other parish celebrations. In addition to singing at Sunday and school liturgies, the Youth Choir has sung at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, at Nationals Park and the Verizon Center.

Any student in the Third through Eighth grades currently enrolled at St. Thomas More Cathedral School or registered as a member of the parish. Membership is limited.
The Youth Choir rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 3:15 p.m. to 4:20pm p.m. in Room 1. All choir members must arrange for transportation immediately following rehearsal, or go to Extended Day. Choir members will wait in the classroom to be picked up. Any choir members still present at 4:20pm must check into Extended Day and parents will be billed accordingly.
Attendance is monitored at all rehearsals and performances. Failure to participate consistently shows a lack of commitment. If a choir member is ill or knows in advance of a conflict that will prevent him or her from participating in a rehearsal or performance, please contact Andrea Scully at (703) 864-1389 or email@example.com.
Liturgies and Performances
The Youth Choir generally sings twice a month at parish and/or diocesan liturgies, including the Sunday 9:30 Mass at the Cathedral, diocesan events, sacramental liturgies, community events, and other parish celebrations. A schedule of events may be found here. Additional details will be given as each performance draws near.
For all Sunday liturgies, choir members should meet in the music office at the Cathedral (in Burke Hall). Choir members are expected to be robed, have all necessary materials for the Mass, and be seated by 8:45 a.m. It is very important for choir members to have time devoted to warm-up and a short rehearsal before Mass, so please be on time. Arrival times for other events will be specified.

Information about upcoming rehearsals, liturgies, and other Youth Choir events will be sent via reminder fliers and e-mail. Please be sure to keep all contact the information current to facilitate communication. A calendar of events is also posted on this page.
Dues and Fundraising
The Youth Choir is financially self-supported, and relies on the following sources of income:
- $20 yearly dues
- Pizza Lunch
All funds are used to purchase new music, binders, and robes. Completed registration forms and fees, along with signed Choir contracts, are due to Ms. Scully by September 28. Checks should be made payable to STM Youth Choir.
It is the responsibility of each member to care for his or her music. Choral music is very expensive!
Snack is provided for all choir rehearsals. A sign-up sheet will be provided to parents at the beginning of the year to provide snack for the choir.
Do not eat, drink, or chew gum during rehearsals or performances.
Each member is assigned a robe and hangar for the year. Choir members will be responsible for any damage or staining done to robes. Choir members will be expected to have their robes dry-cleaned and returned at the end of the school year. A note of caution: Please be gentle with the zippers – they are expensive to replace!
Membership in the Youth Choir is a privilege and a responsibility. Choir members and parents are, therefore, requested to read and sign the contract listed in the left-hand bar of this page, promising to abide by the guidelines listed.
