Welcome to Kindergarten!
I am extending a warm welcome to all of our kindergartners! I hope you had a wonderful and adventurous summer. Now that we are into the Autumn season; I am excited and look forward to teaching and getting to know each and every student. Kindergarten is a time for children to expand their love of learning, their general knowledge, their ability to get along with others, and their interests in having an overall understanding of the world around them. While kindergarten marks an important transition, your children will continue to develop a wide range of skills that include physical, social, emotional, language and literacy. Playing outside and taking physical activity brakes during the day help children build healthy bones and muscles. Doing puzzles, writing and drawing, are some activities that develop children's fingers and hand control. Your child and or children will continue to enhance their emotional development by having a better understanding of his or her feelings. Thus, language and literacy development will be communicated through reading, writing, listening and talking. Furthermore, thinking and cognitive skills develop as children explore, observe, create, ask questions, do new tasks, and solve problems. I will work with your children and provoke them with open ended questions, various lessons and activities that will encourage them to discuss and think more deeply about new and familiar ideas.
I have worked with young children for over 20 years. I started teaching at a christian curriculum-based National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) early child care center in the District of Columbia in the mid 1990's. From then; I continued to further my formal and informal classroom training, as well as my college education. I trained under nationally recognized leaders of early education, as well as master degreed elementary school educators. I now hold a BA in Human Relations and an associates degree in the Science of Early Education. I am working towards a master's degree in the field of education soon. Finally, it is a great pleasure to teach your young children. I know that this will be an exciting and adventurous year, as we make our learning exploration and journey together.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
