Birthday Book Program

Birthdays are always special to a child. What better way to celebrate the special occasion than donate a book to the library in honor of the birthday child? The Birthday Book Program gives you the chance to make a lasting gift to the library in a child’s name.

Children may choose their favorite book or send a note to the librarian to see which of their favorite books the library needs then bring the book to school. A bookplate commemorating the child’s birthday and acknowledging the donor will be placed inside the book. Hardback books will last longer in the library, but any donation is appreciated!

In addition the birthday boy/girl will receive a thank you bookmark and will be given the opportunity to be the first to borrow the book.

5th Grade Book Reports

Posted: October 27, 2011

Students in the 5th grade are to read one work of fiction about each of the following geographic areas you will be studying this year:

South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America

The objective of this assignment is to encourage students to increase their understanding of these geographic locations and to broaden their scope of reading by introducing new authors and new genres.

Please write a 50 to 100 word essay about your book on the Tumblebook worksheet you received November 3rd.

To help you locate books on these continents, I have compiled a resources list for you on our Follett Destiny website. You may also go to the University on Wisconsin’s Library for the School of Education on the link below for a list of books on the continents.

Disclaimer:   I have not read the books on this list. Parents should help students to choose appropriate titles. None of these books is required.

Turn all work into Mrs. O’Rourke. All five book reviews are due by February 2, 2012.
