For the middle-schoolers at one diocesan school, community service is part of the curriculum.

Field trips are usually a favorite activity for students, and in an area so close to Washington, Arlington diocesan students are lucky to be near hundreds of educational places where they can learn about history, science and government. For lessons in community service, however, students don’t have to go so far.

For the past six years, the students of St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington have participated in Service Days about three times a year. They can tell you, there are opportunities to help everywhere — at local preschools, senior centers, food banks or even just across the school hallway.
