For your child’s comfort, and in order to prevent the spread of communicable illnesses, your child should be kept home if he/she shows any of the following symptoms:
- Sore throat
- Temperature in the past 24 hours
- Headache
- Earache
- Running nose
- Vomiting in the past 24 hours
- Pain
Unknown rashes
- Chills
- Excessive fatigue
- Toothache
Please make sure that you update your child’s emergency information throughout the school year so that we can contact you if your child becomes sick or is injured at school.
It is best to give your child medication at home. However, if your child requires medication, or an inhaler while in school, please contact the school nurse immediately so that the proper forms can be completed by the parent and doctor. A hand-written note will not be accepted with medication. NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO HAVE OR BRING ANY TYPE OF MEDICATION TO SCHOOL.
Please alert me if your child has a cast, brace, sutures, monitor, crutches, etc. Students coming to school on crutches must first meet with the school nurse. The student needs to be accompanied by a parent and have a written medical note indicating the reason for the crutches.
Students who are not able to participate in physical education classes need to submit written documentation from their medical doctor with a specific time frame noted.
Please keep me informed of all illnesses, injuries, eye exams, immunizations, routine medications, allergies, etc. throughout the year so that I can keep your child’s health records up to date. For the safety and well being of your child, pertinent medical information concerning your child will be shared with the appropriate staff unless written documentation opposing this is submitted from the parent/guardian.
In keeping with our wellness plan, we discourage fast food lunches and junk food treats. Beginning with our youngest students, we ask them to bring fruit or vegetables for their snack. For birthdays, we ask that only one small cookie, muffin or cupcake with minimal icing be brought in to share with no sugary drinks or “goodie” bags. Another option to celebrate your child’s special day is our library birthday book donation.
Please feel free the contact me throughout the school year if you have any questions or concerns. I am in the clinic Mon-Wed and Friday from 7:30-3:30. On Thursdays, Mrs. Bauer (our health educator and PE teacher) staffs the clinic. I look forward to caring for your children. |
