Extended Day

The Extended Day Program is sponsored and administered by the school and is held predominantly in the school's cafeteria with ample outdoor recreation/playtime and/or study hall time. The program is available on a daily, intermittent, drop-in, or emergency basis. All St. Thomas More School students in grades K - 8 are eligible to attend the program so that, in the event of an emergency, any child may be accommodated in the program.

Any child who arrives at school before 7:40 am or is not picked up by second pickup after school is dismissed must sign into the Extended Day Program.

Hours	Fees
The Extended Day Program operates each school day from 7:00am until 8:00am and from 3:00pm until 6:00pm on regularly scheduled days. On early release days, the afternoon session begins when school is dismissed. The program does not operate on school holidays. During inclement weather, please follow Arlington County guidelines.	For the 2010 – 2011 school year, all families will be charged $5.00 per hour for one child; $7.50 for two children; and $9.50 for three children. You will be charged the full hourly rate for any portion of an hour used.
Register	Late Pick-Up
Register: Please complete the following list of forms below. The forms can be found online at our website – www.stmschool.org. Forms will be returned to you if they are not complete. Once all the forms are complete, you will receive confirmation from the office of your acceptance into the program. Extended Day Registration Form Diocese of Arlington Permission for Emergency Care* $25.00 check written out the STM Extended Day Parents with dual custody must each* complete a Diocese of Arlington Permission for Emergency Care form. A copy of the divorce decree must be attached.	All families who do not pick up children from Extended Care by 6 P.M will be charged a fee. The cost will be $3.00 per child per minute after 6 P.M. If a family is late picking up in excess of three times, a conference will be required with the principal. Further tardies may result in denial of services.
Snacks	Staff
A nutritious snack is provided daily, but children are permitted to bring snacks from home. Any special dietary or health problem should be carefully explained on the Emergency Form and brought to the attention of the staff.	An Extended Day director and at least one child care supervisor for every 18 children staff the Extended Day Program. The staff is required to have a criminal history check, a physical, a TB test, and 12 hours of annual in-service training. All of the present staff has been trained in first aid and CPR.
A Typical Day	Further Information
A typical day includes signing in, eating snack and then playing outside. During inclement weather, children will see a video or go upstairs to play in the gym. Quiet homework time is available Monday through Thursday in the library. The last hour is spent in free play where the children can choose games, blocks, puzzles, coloring books, etc. Children are permitted to bring toys from home, but Extended Day cannot be responsible for them. From time to time, there are special, supervised arts and crafts activities, but generally the children are free to choose any activity that is available. Children are never allowed to leave the school property for any reason, and a parent or guardian, or their representative, must sign them out. On early release days, the children must bring lunches from home, marked with the child's name and date.	The St. Thomas More Extended Day Program was the first extended day founded in the Arlington Diocese. The Extended Day Program building and grounds are inspected annually by the Arlington County Fire Department and the County Health Department. The program is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and is insured through the Diocese of Arlington.
